Buses To and From the Wedding

Hello Everyone! The following is the bus schedule for transport to and from our wedding on Saturday September 19th. We have opted to provide buses so that people won't have to drive or figure out directions to the wedding for themselves. The wedding location is a 25-30 minute drive from where you will be staying at the Royal Atlantic Hotel in Montauk.

3 School Buses will be departing from in front of the Royal Atlantic Hotel in Montauk at 3:30 pm sharp on Saturday September 19th.

The buses will drop off at East Hampton Point at around 4 o'clock pm for the wedding ceremony to begin at 4:30 pm.

After the wedding and reception, buses will be departing from in front of East Hampton Point at 11 pm sharp.

The buses will then drop off back at the Royal Atlantic Hotel in Montauk at 11:30 pm.

At that point everyone will have a chance to change clothes if they want to before meeting up at a bar in the center of Montauk town, walking distance from your hotel, for the festivities to carry on into the wee hours :) When you check in, you should receive an itinerary of this information at the hotel, including the name of the bar where we will meet up after the wedding and directions on how to get there. (It will most likely be the (in)famous Memory Motel). See you all soon!!

Rehearsal Dinner

For anyone who hasn't seen the email, Eoin's parents John and Kathleen Cunningham will be hosting a Rehearsal Dinner at Duryea's (Erica's family's outdoor seafood restaurant in Montauk) Friday September 18th, the night before the wedding, and all out of town guests are welcome and encouraged to attend! The dinner will begin with drinks at 5:30 pm (to catch sunset) followed by a choice of menu selections from Duryea's. The location is 65 Tuthill Road in Montauk, which is an easy cab ride from your hotel. The attire is party-casual or whatever you want it to be. Be aware though that Duryea's is all open air and on the water, so bring a sweater or jacket. Please email Eoin or Erica with any questions....you don't want to miss it!

Our Gift Registry

Note: We've updated our wedding registries with more items, and recently added one more store: Michael C. Fina.

We've registered at the following places for Wedding Gifts:

Williams Sonoma *Guests outside the US please call 1-800-541-1262

Crate and Barrel *Guests outside the US please call 630-369-4464

Michael C. Fina

*PLEASE NOTE: Guests coming from outside the US, due to shortsightedness of certain web designers, will have to make purchases over the phone for gifts from Crate and Barrel and Williams Sonoma due to the fact that the shopping carts do not accept billing addresses outside the US. You can use the above links to choose your gift and then call the numbers provided and give them the name of our registry to make the purchase; items will come off of the registry and ship to the designated address per usual. For Michael C. Fina this is not a problem, online purchases can be made from any country through our registry on their website.

Registry gifts have been arranged to automatically ship to Erica's parents' house in Montauk. Also, we decided against doing the online "Honeyfund" as a registry for our honeymoon because of fees involved, so for those so inclined, gifts to us of donations towards our honeymoon are gratefully accepted! If any of our Irish guests wish to donate to our honeymoon, we'll be very happy to accept Irish cheques.

Accommodation in Montauk

STAYING IN MONTAUK:
A large block of rooms have been reserved for our guests in the Royal Atlantic Hotel in the center of town for the nights of Friday 18th and Saturday 19th. Buses will be leaving from this hotel on Saturday afternoon September 19th bringing people to our wedding location, and will be dropping people back off at this hotel Saturday night. Here's a map, and here's a scene from Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind shot in front of the hotel! To receive the group rate and reserve your room, contact the Royal Atlantic's Accommodations Coordinator, Tina, at (631) 668 5970 ext. 4402. You can also email her directly at tinar@royalatlantic.com , this may be easier for those of you who need to contact her during working hours.

There are three options for rooms depending on size of room, whether it has an ocean view, and if people are sharing (suites are available). There is an additional cost of $25 per person per night for any more than two people, so if you are sharing rooms, you may want to keep that to yourself when booking (don't tell them we said that obviously :). The hotel normally doesn't take credit cards for bookings, but we've arranged for them to make an exception for our international guests. Unfortunately, anyone within the US will have to pay for their rooms by check in advance. We apologize, but this hotel operates as a co-op and they insist on this policy. For a two night stay, the prices range from $112.50 to $157.50 per night, so when you call and speak to Tina, the accommodation coordinator, just tell her you are calling for a room for the Duryea-Cunningham wedding and she will be happy to explain the options and set something up for you!

Below is a price list for the rooms with the discounts. All room rates are for double occupancy, with a complete full breakfast each morning down at the Restaurant.

Travel to Montauk from JFK & New York

While the wedding itself will be at East Hampton Point, the majority of guests will be staying in Montauk, New York.

BEFORE LEAVING:
If you're not a US citizen, then READ THIS! As of January 12th 2009, the Department of Homeland Security insist on foreign travellers (or anyone who's ever looked like a traveller) registering at least 72 hours beforehand at CPB.gov. Registration is good for two years, so get it out of the way now.

ARRIVING IN JFK:
Once you land at the airport, you can probably get by with a credit card, but I really recommend already having dollars in your pocket for any little things that may come up. Your options for proceeding from the airport will depend on whether you're staying in Manhattan for a couple of days or going directly to Montauk.

JFK TO MONTAUK:
Montauk is on the tip of Long Island, so the best way to get there from the airport is by train. Take the Jamaica Route on the JFK AirTrain to Jamaica Station. It'll cost $5. Once you're at Jamaica Station, walk through to the main station itself and get a ticket for $18 ($13 at off-peak times). Montauk's the last stop, which makes it easier to see which platform you need as it'll actually display "Montauk". This map gives a good sense of where Manhattan, Jamaica Station and Montauk are in relation to each other. Note: You can also buy your ticket on the train itself if you're in a rush, but it's more expensive and they only take cash.

JFK TO MANHATTAN:
You have two choices: taxi or train.
TAXI -
Don't get in any cab at the airport unless it's an actual yellow taxi. You'll be able to queue up for them outside the terminal, and the queue is always really quick. If you're going to Manhattan itself, then it'll be a flat fare of $45 to wherever you're going. This will be the first time of many that you'll be expected to tip, so get used to it! More details here.
TRAIN -
If you're going by train, then take the Howard Beach Route on the JFK AirTrain to Howard Beach Station. It'll cost $5. You can then get a subway on the "A" line going to Manhattan. (Don't take it in the opposite direction out to Queens.) Here's a good general subway map (JFK is on the far right), and this map shows the stops on the A line. You can transfer to other lines for free to get where you're going, just like the subway systems in London or Paris. The subway costs $2 a trip, and runs 24 hours a day, unlike London or Paris. You'll need to buy a Metrocard at one of the machines in the station. If you're only staying for a day or two, I'd just buy a card with $20 credit on it. Otherwise get the 7-day Unlimited Ride Metrocard for $25 (but this type can't be shared between two people).

MANHATTAN TO MONTAUK:
You can either take a train or bus to Montauk from Manhattan. You could also take a taxi, but it would cost like a gazillion dollars, as Long Island is the length of Ireland.
TRAIN -
Go to Penn Station (map) on 34th St and get a ticket for Montauk on the Long Island Rail Road. It'll cost $21 ($15.25 at off-peak times). Hang onto your ticket, as you'll be taking a train going through Jamaica Station first and then changing for the train to Montauk. Once you're in Montauk, you can get a taxi to your hotel.
BUS -
The best bus to get is a private company called the Hampton Jitney. It's $30 one-way or $53 round-trip. You really should make a reservation beforehand as it's pretty popular, and this includes telling them what stop you'll be getting on at. I'd recommend getting on at the corner of 40th Street and 3rd Avenue, as they spend a bit more time waiting there before leaving the city. Your reservation won't make them wait for you if you're late though! The jitney arrives in the center of Montauk, so a lot of you will then be able to walk to your accomodation.

UPDATED NOTE ABOUT TRAINS:
There's apparently track work happening on the Montauk track, but trains are still running on a limited schedule. People taking the 4:15pm, 5:51pm or 8:30pm weekday trains will be okay, but everyone else should plan ahead, and confirm that the replacement buses are running when buying your ticket.
